This sounds like a hardware issue, which is outside of the scope of these forums. You might try contacting the hardware manufacturer for assistance.

I had this problem, and finally got it solved over the weekend. I got the solution from another person who got it from Microsoft. I thought I would post it here with the repair file in case some one else needs it.

I was getting the following errors upon dial up on a Toshiba Laptop running XP home.

The first time after booting up and dialing up I got :

"Invalid username or password. Error 6 The handle is invalid."

After that I got:

" All devices connected Error 50 The request is not supported."

This is what Microsoft said.

When you tried to dial up to the Internet, you received the error "Error
6: the handle is invalid."

This issue can occur if the RAS or NDISWAN component is corrupted. The
problem can occur after removing some 3rd party program such as AT&T
dial up program because the uninstallation program may not be designed
very well. To troubleshoot this issue, please perform the following
steps.

1. Remove Modem driver from the Device Manager.

- Right click My Computer and select Properties.

- Click on Hardware, Device Manager. Click on + sign by modem, right click and
uninstall modem.

2. Delete the dial up connections and remove 3rd party RAS related
program if any.

3. Run the attached file to install RArepair.exe, then run RArepair.exe to
reinstall RAS components. Reboot.

4. Reinstall Modem driver and the 3rd party dial up program if it is
required by your ISP.

5. Recreate the dial up connection and check if the problem is resolved.

This worked for me.

Just as a follow up I was having this issue and couldn't figure out what was going on. When i ran the rarepair.exe it totaly removed dun (dial up networking). Witch is kinda neat but was pissing me off. I searched around all day then finally realized I had a "Qwest" dial up manager installed. So i went through the list of installed programs and made sure anything related to dialup and vpn was removed. then ran the rarepair.exe (Microsoft Remote Access Repair Tool) and bam everything worked. So if you are having this problem make sure you have no dial up tools installed before you run rarepair.exe.

Unhappy Tried to burn "rarepair" to a cd... Big Mistake!

Help?
I tried to copy the file "rarepair" to a cd on my Sony computer to take to fix another computer since the broke computer couldn't get online. I have dsl and the broken one has dial up. They both have XP.

Now it has locked up my sony computer's "Control Panel", "My Computer" etc so that I cannot access anything to control my computer. It did not copy to the cd. I went to "Explorer" somehow and was able to delete the file from the folder "files waiting to be burned on cd" since it would not let me burn it. It had a lower right tray icon that said "files waiting to be burned to cd" click here. But when I tried to click it would blank out all the icons on my desktop for a few seconds and then they would come back, but it still would have the icon in the tray with the same "click here to burn files". etc.

What did it do to my Sony computer? I have gone back to a restore twice with 2 different dates. Once, before I was able to delete the file "rarepair" and once after. Both times it said that it worked, however, I was still unable to open my "Control Panel" or "My Computer". I am able {obviously, since I am here } to get online ok on the Sony, so it didn't mess with my dsl settings. I can get to "run" from the start menu, but not to "search". I also can get to the programs on the start menu, just not the "Control Panel" or anything to do with controlling my sony computer.

Also, for the broke computer (the 1st one), how do I "make sure no dial up tools are installed"? Any suggestions on how to get the "rarepair" file to the computer that cannot get online due to the "Error 50"?

Thanks for any help you may offer!
Cyn

Update 07/26/07
I was able to fix the original computer problem by taking the computer to my dsl line and changing the dial up to dsl and accessing this site and downloading the rarepair file that way. The fix works great once you get it downloaded.
I do however, still have the problem with the 2nd computer with not being able to access any controls. I can access file stuff through Windows Explorer, but nothing works with control panel etc.

naju90, if you are still experiencing the same software/OS situation, then the procedures outline in the following thread might help - http://forums.practicallynetworked.c...ead.php?t=6675.

Can confirm that Maxgle's solution ("rarepair") still works (on XP). I had an 'Error 720', in conjunction with a mobile data modem, and running rarepair solved it like a breeze.

Thanks again, Maxgle!

Luckily, dial-up is fading fast, so hopefully there should not be too many more deviations that can counter this approach/solution.

Cszeto - well, yes and no. For normal net access, yes dial-up is fading/almost gone. But I guess that (3G) mobile data modems still are considdered dial-up - and they are proliferating with respect to both numbers and use as I see it. So RARepair is still a very necessary piece of trouble shooting software. Unfotunately.. :=)
