RG-1000 and dial up modem

Hi,

I am a bit of a newbie with wirelesss network so please bear with me. I recently bought a silve Orinoc card and RG-1000 gateway. I installed them yesterday following the instructions, I flashed the RG-1000 with the new software and the PC card in my laptop seems to be communicating well with the RG-1000 with a good signal strength... ok so far soo good... living in the UK i still only use a dial up connection for the internet.. i ran the RG setup utility to try and configure my ISP settings... i entered username/password etc and Telephone number and then I think the RG-1000 tries to make the ISP connection... I seem to lose the wireless connection for about 1min and then a message appears on my screen saying a connection could not made, please check communication setting etc...

Thing is I didn't hear the RG-1000 connecting or disconnecting the internal modem and I am beginning to think its not working.. is there any way to test this? or is there a certain way i should be inputting the telephone number in the setup screen..

any help would be greatly appreciated ..

Thanks

Assad

Sounds like you are doing the right things unless you entered the wrong dial-up number? Since you have managed to configure the RG1000 you must have setup the wireless card to talk to it. You have told it you want to dial-up, not use the external connection (broadband)? You don't have any firewalls active on the PC ?

I suggest you call Orinoco tech support for advice.

Do you have a tech number for them in the UK?
I even put my mobile number in the box for the ISP bit to see if it would dial up... but nothing... would it not be a bit strange if everything else was fine but just the modem was broken ?

Can i just check on how to enter the number, i selected United Kingdom.. then if my ISP no. is 0845 XXX XXXX do i just type it in as is or do i need to adjust it in some way (ie 44 845 xx.., or even just 845 xxx...)

Regards

Assad

I don't have Orinoco so I don't know their quirks. I must say their manual is rather facile.

I would have entered the dialup number just as you did.

Orinoco's site says contact your supplier:

Thats not good.

I would contact your supplier - tech support ot your money back.

Well just to update,

I finally got it working last night and guess what.. it was working fine all the time.. the problem was with the Gateway Setup program, after I put in my ISP settings it tries to make a connection to my ISP.. but it would keep reporting back that the connection failed and it made me wonder that perhaps the modem was broken... last night i opened the setup program let it send my ISP details to the wireless gateway and when it said it couldn't connect to my ISP i closed the setup program. Then I launched IE and hey preseto, the modem in the wireless gateway dialled up my ISP and made the connection.. hey presto it all works...

All in all, i think the product is good, useful if you only have a dial up connection but also want a wireless network.. BUT a) the dcoumentation is terrible.. really is that bad and b) I was using the latest drivers/configuration programmes and still had problems...
