Belkin USB network adapter
I am having some very curious problems!
I am trying to network my new PC with my old PC using Belkin USB 802.11b network adapters. FYI: It's an ad-hoc network, and its the new pc with the internet connection, I want the old PC to access the internet (and printer when I set it up) through the new PC. Both PC's have an identical VIA 4-Port USB 2.0 card, the new PC is a Asus MoBo and the old PC is a Gigabyte MoBo. Both PC's are Win XP Pro boxes. I will list the complete specifications of the old PC at the end of this post, the new PC isn't have any troubles. My old PC has two USB ports (1.0 or 1.1, not sure).
Initially I connected the network adapter to one of those ports. The adapter was recognised and installed correctly. However, as soon as I start to transfer files it resets the PC, after a random period of time during the transfer.

During a lengthy phone call with Belkin technical support, I tried connecting the adapter to my 4-port via card, however it would not recognise the adapter. Nor would it recognise the other adapter I had been using with my new PC. Conversely, the Via USB 2.0 card installed in my new PC recognises both network adapters. Furthermore, the Via card in my old pc will recognise my other usb devices such as a smart media card reader.
Since whatever settings I treaked and however I reinstalled the network adapter, it would not operate through my old PC's MoBo USB ports. Therefore I bought a Belkin external powered USB 1.1 4 port hub, and connected that to my via card (switched on), and in turn the network adapter to that. This way the network adapter was recognised, but caused exactly the same effect as it did when connected directly to the MoBo's own USB ports. Also the adapter+hub combination also made no difference when connected to the MoBo's own USB ports.
Here are my old PC's specifications:
CPU: AMD K6-2 500 MHz, 100MHz bus speed.
MoBo: Gigabyte GA 5AX rev 4.1 (100MHz bus, UDMA 33)
RAM: 256MB+128MB, PC100, 100MHz
Primary IDE Master: 30GB UDMA 66 (backards compatible) ExcelStore
Primary IDE Slave: 10GB UDMA 33 Maxtor
Seconary IDE Master: Sony 8x/4x/32x CD-RW
Secondary IDE Slave: Samsung 40x CD-ROM
Video Card: Diamnod Viper V550, nVidea TNT, 16MB, AGP
Sound card: Sound Blaster, AWE64, ISA Bus
On-board USB: 2 USB 1 ports
Added USB: Via USB 2.0 PCI card, with 4 ports.

I neglected to mention that I get the following error signatures once my old PC
reboots from having been restarted by the the network adapter triggered problem.
