UK Belkin wireless router and network setup

Hello;

I am setting up a home wireless network. i will be going from my cable modem/computer downstairs to a computer in a upstairs bedroom. the signal will have to go through a wood floor and a brick wall. A total distance of maybe 100'.

I already have Belkins Wireless USB Network Adapters. p/n F5D6050

I was going to buy the Belkin Wireless Cable/DSL Gateway Router, p/n F5D6230-3, to match and started reading reviews on your website here. i have seen that some people were having problems with distance/reception and this wireless router.

I do like the fact that they have lifetime warranties and 24/7 customer support, that is a good thing in my opinion.
but if the router cannot do what it's supposed to, then the warranty means nothing.

my questions are this.

Knowing that i have to get signal in a house here in the U.K. with nice brick walls, do you think the Belkin wirless router will be able to do the job? is there a better wireless router (better in signal strength) avalible?

Any thoughts or comments or ideas will be appreciated.

I think i've covered all the facts needed, but if there is something more you need to know please ask.

Well, first you cannot believe the range claims of the vendors, they are willdy exagerated.

Your 100 ft is a long way to go in a house. I'm in a 1930s house of brick and breezeblock. If I go corner to corner I guess its less than 100ft (and through a lot of walls) and I get very weak signal with errors and loss of connection (but thats with a PC card in a laptop).

You might be ok, but If I was you I would hedge my bets and would choose a wireless router with a detachable aeriel where you can add a high gain aeriel if necessary. I know D-Link and Orinoco do these (maybe SMC too), I don't know if Belkin do also. Orinoco have a reputation for good range (but I have heard support is poor in the UK).

Or this from Linksys:

Technically there should not be a problem to mix and match different makes of wireless kit (though there has been in the past).

Hope that gives you food for thought.
