Printing problem for network newbie

I have a small WAN (laptop/desktop) and am only able to print from my desktop where the printer is hooked up to due to the fact that I have Tiny Personal Firewall set up on each machine. Is this necessary, or will a firewall on only one machine protect your entire network?

Maybe you can explain a little more what your WAN is. A desktop and a laptop are not a WAN.

You need the firewall on the connection to the internet.

Sorry, I'm rather new at this. I have a wireless network w/ cable modem and Linksys router. I'm not real trusting of the router's built in firewall so I have a software firewall installed on each of my computers. I am only able to print when I disable the firewall on my desktop. I'm wondering if my network is still secure w/ only the firewall on my laptop running?

Ok - the router provides full protection to your PCs from the internet (the WAN). You don't need any firewalls on the PCs for that.

Firewalls often cause problems on the LAN. You should be able to tell the firewall what is inside the 'trusted zone' but each one differs in its setup. I don't know Tiny.
