Sitecom xDSL/Cable Router Pro

I have the model DC-201 router. My cable modem is connected to the router and i have two puters connected to it. Am running Win2k on both. Ethernet cards in both puters. when i do an ipconfig on one, i get :

AYCA is the second puter, and shadoq is this one. Shouldn't there be some info for shadoq in there too?

This is getting long, but one last thing : when i do a tracert on an ip, it looks like this :

Tracing route to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx over a maximum of 30 hops

1 * * * Request timed out.
2 130 ms 180 ms 50 ms rtp00....

first one is always times out.

All this makes me think there's something wrong somewhere. Am i right

I'll be honest, I'm not quite sure what is happening.

You didn't include any IP addresses for that fragment of the trace route. I assume that the second line ends with the IP address of your default gateway . This would be the routers LAN address (192.168.0.1).

Just a crazy idea, you may want to check your DHCP settings and ensure you do not have any addresses set up statically as your gateway.

All the information in the IPconfig you included appears to come from the one computer : shadoq

I am guessing that the line "Ethernet adapter LAN-AYCA:
" is messing you up. This is usually an interface name and is not the computer's name.

Personally I usually see :E190x2 and E190x3 in this field for external interface names in IPconfig.

Maybe you can explain what is happening exactly or what you are seeing different on both computers. What happens when you trace route from the other computer ?

ummm...thanks for the reply. i'm not sure what's happening either, but i played around with some stuff on the router settings page, and the results are as follows. I hope this is a bit clearer

looked at all your settings. Everything looks good on your end.

If the trace route terminated at the request timed out, you could conclude the server is down or dead end. That didn't happen in this case. Since your requests were passed it could represent the packets getting 'Nat'ed' or a bad route/gateway.

I suspect this 'time out' is the first interface from your ISP. You can always double check by connecting one of your computers directly up to your cable modem, then running a trace again...
or you could even ask your provider whats up.

I use a linksys router, here is my trace route using my DSL connection (Ips changed to protect the guilty) :

Basically my point being:

1.) my router did not show up (so your first hop may not be on your end)
2.) request timed out does not neccarily mean something is wrong.

You'll notice your second hop is a 20.x.x.x ip address and your WAN gateway is 195.174.5.79. So something routed your packets on to that network. This could be the 'request timed out' router or another router that does not answer ICMP requests (stealth mode).

I'm gonna go out an a limb and guess that you ran these tests to check your lag to the game server....
It does not look like any particular router is causing the issue. Your connection is just lagged. You can tell cause you get a high ping, and then a low ping on the very next server.

350 ping to the 5th router (195.175.47.2) seems high. That may be off your ISP's network so they will probably claim that they can not help you...Worst comes to worst, ask your ISP to check the signal strenght/levels on your modem.
