Question Looking for a new HIGH END ROUTER.

Hello.

I'm looking to get a new router to replace my D-Link 624. It doesn't have to have wireless/VPN/GIG speeds but would be nice.

I currently in a GIG network using a Linksys 8-port GIG unmanaged switch.

I'm looking for the highest possible download speeds of the net and reliably.

I have been looking at these:
Linksys 4-Port Gigabit Security Router with VPN (RVS4000)
&
D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655)

Are these any good or can I get something better?

ps. VPN would be nice to have but to a necessity.

Thanks

Matt

Not too much discussions around gigabit equipment across these forums yet... You might try one of the gaming forums.

Well I would say a different router will make no difference to download speed or reliability - subject to the qualification that some ISPs now offer > 10Mbps and many routers are limited to 10Mbps. The download speed is limited by the download website and reliability is mostly due to the ISP.

Actually, a lot of the newer SOHO NAT routers have 10/100 WAN ports, but that does not necessarily mean that the WAN/LAN processing capabilities of the router can run past the 10 mbps mark (assuming that it even comes close in some cases).

Is the D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655) a good choice then?
