Help needed: ICS not working + one computer not sharing files
I built a home network XP-SP2.
There are two different problems:
1-No way to access one shared files machine (access rights?) when that machine is seen in the network and access tho other PCs.
2-No way to share internet connection.
This is my network configuration:
Host: LISBOA --------->USB MODEM ---------------------------->Internet
+------>PCI LAN CARD---->ROUTER WIFI/CABLE ··············\
+------>PCI WIFI CARD.....))))))))^ ································+> Bridge IP: 192.168.0.1
+------>USB ADSL LAN ADAPTER (installed by ISP soft) ·····/
Host: SETUBAL -------->PCI WIFI CARD ..))) ROUTER WIFI/CABLE
+------>PCI LAN CARD -[
Host: COIMBRA -------->PCI WIFI CARD ..))) ROUTER WIFI/CABLE
+------>PCI LAN CARD -[
Symbols:
+---- Cable connect
...)))) Wifi connect
-[ Not connected
\
+> Bridged connection
/
Windows Workgroup: PORTUGAL and DNS suffix: LUSITANIA on the 3 machines.
PROBLEMS:
- The 3 computers are found without problems, but shared files of COIMBRA are unaccessibles from LISBOA and SETUBAL.
- Only LISBOA can access internet while its connexion is defined to be shared.
- WIFI network card in the bridge of LISBOA cannot see WIFI network (pb important as WIFI router is cable connected to PCI LAN connection)
Others:
On LISBOA:
- Bridge for 3 network connections (USB LAN+PCI LAN+WIFI LAN) with a unique IP 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0
- Norton Internet Security Active with Internet firewall, home network enabled (No internal de Firewall for IP 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0).
On the router:
- SSID défined, WEP 64b
- DHCP active (but unusefull as IPs are defined in each PC)
- Router Firewall active with MAC Address filters allowing MAC addresses of the 3 computers and the router itself.
IPCONFIG /ALL of computers:

Yes:
4. USB ADSL LAN ADPTER is (I think) a virtual adapter installed by the ISP software with the modem or is in the USB modem itself... I don't know.
If deactivated, the ADSL modem is not accessible.

You can try to keep the complications tot he minimum by trying the following:
LISBOA
======
-USB CABLE MODEM connects to the internet
------------------------------------------
Automatic Addressing, only TCP/IP Enabled and in Advanced Tab Internet Connection
Sharing Enabled and in internet sharing 'Settings' enable all services you want to
share, HTTP etc.
-LAN Adapter connects to the WiFi Router
---------------------------------------
Everything Enabled (File & Printer TCP/IP etc.)
IP ADDRESS: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Leave other settings to default (and do not define any DNS Servers or Suffix or
anything else in your 'Advanced' button)
-PCI WiFi Adapter
----------------
Disable it or remove it
-USB ADSL LAN ADPTER
----------------------
Leave it as it is
Futhermore, make sure there is no bridge, delete it!
SETUBAL
=======
-PCI WiFi Card connects to the WiFi Router
----------------------------------------
Everything Enabled (File & Printer TCP/IP etc.)
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Deafault Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Preffered DNS: 192.168.0.1
Leave everything else to default (no DNS SERVERS OR SUFFIX!)
-PCI LAN Card
-------------
Make sure your LAN Card is Disabled or removed!
COIMBRA
=======
-PCI WiFi Card Connects to the WiFi Router
-----------------------------------------
Same settings as SETUBAL but make sure IP Address is 192.168.0.3
-PCI LAN Card
-------------
Disable or remove it!
OTHER SETTINGS
=============
You workgroup name is PORTUGAL, make sure all three computers have this same workgroup name. And make sure all other settings apart from the ones mentioned above are set to default i.e. no dns servers, no suffixes etc. just keep it nice and sweet!
Once the setting has been applied restart LISBOA and then the others.
Let me know watever happens, I am waiting. best of luck

This is how your network should look like:
INTERNET
...||
USB MODEM
...||
LISBOA => LAN CARD
.................||
..............ROUTER
.............//.......\\
.....PCI WiFi.......PCI WiFi
............||..........||
.......SETUBAL....COIMBRA

OK!!!!
- I disabled PCI LAN cards in Coimbra and Setubal.
- I defined 192.168.0.1 as DNS preferred server in SETUBAL and COIMBRA and it runs perfect.
Thanks a lot
Now I just have to understand why COIMBRA shared files are not accessibles from the others PCs when it is seen in the workgroup and when COIMBRA can open files in LISBOA and SETUBAL.
Any idea?
Thanks again

hahaha thats not a problem dude! actually you havn't set shared files yet, thats why! set some folders for sharing, and also make sure you enable changing contents, i mean make sure its not only read-only sharing. Well, although its your own choice since its your own network, but I preffer full sharing because its MY HOME not MY OFFICE! :P
