Angry LAN works Wieless does not

New to this site so hello to all.

Hope someone can help me here

Scenario One:

Plugged in router (Sumvision 54G Wireless Modem router ADSL) and connected it to a laptop via LAN cable.
Used router supplied CD to automatically configure ADSL.
Used router supplied CD to configure wireless
WEP with shared key
Connected to internet via LAN – all ok

Installed software from USB wireless dongle (Sumvision IEEE802.11g) on a laptop then plugged in dongle. Connected to network after setting WEP key. Accessed Internet ok

Two further laptops connected (built in WiFi) after setting keys. Again no problem with connection.

Went back to original laptop to connect using it’s WiFi card. Seemed ok and I disconnected LAN and all ok.

Over the last three weeks this particular laptop has been virtually unable to connect to wireless network. It only seems to work if the router is switched off and on again.
In some cases the other three laptops don’t work if this laptop is on.

When the offending laptop is brought home it connects without any problem to my home network.

I have even changed my home network channel to something different and it still connects ok!!!

If an ipconfig /all is done then the IP address is 0.0.0.0 and the subnet mask is 0.0.0.0
The DHCP gateway is 255.255.255.255

I have tried /release /renew /registerdns as well as netsh int ip reset but all to no avail.

Scenario Two:

Installed software from USB wireless dongle (Sumvision IEEE802.11g) on a laptop then plugged in dongle. Laptop saw two wireless networks but I did not connect to either

Plugged in router (Sumvision 54G Wireless Modem router ADSL) and connected it to the laptop via LAN cable.
Used router supplied CD to automatically configure ADSL.
Used router supplied CD to configure wireless
WEP with shared key
Connected to internet via LAN – all ok

Installed software from USB wireless dongle (Sumvision IEEE802.11g) on two further laptops then plugged in dongles. Connected to network after setting WEP key. Accessed Internet ok

Went back to first laptop and tried to connect using wireless. No joy.

Like scenario one I tried all combinations including setting IP address manually. All failed to allow laptop to connect via wireless.

The only thing that I can think is that both “faulty” laptops were used to initially configure the router and were LAN connected.

It has been suggested that I go back via System restore to a previous set up and install the dongle again

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thats a strange problem.
Things that could stop you connecting from the problem laptops:
- Wrong WEP key.
- Wireless setting to ad-hoc instead of Access Point.
But if you have ever had any connection then these are not the problem.

You might try uninstalling the dongle driver and reboot to get a fresh driver install.
