Neighborhood type WiFi

OK here is the situation. I live on 500 acre children's home. We are stuck using dial-up because of 2 reasons: 1. The cable company will not run cable out here, 2. We are on phone line network that uses trunk lines to allow all 60 users acces to about 15 outside lines. I was told that the phone lines to our admin. building wouldhandle DSL but the phone lines from the admin building to our homes would not. I am trying to find away to put our neighborhood on a wirless network that would allow for DSL internet access. I am considering putting a "whip" antanae at admin that would be omni-directional so all could access. The farthest home away would ba about 400yrds. The antanae would connect tot he router that would be attached to the DSL modem at admin before the phone line hits thephone line server. I am not a networking guy and any advice on this issue would be much appreciated. Will the wireless signal go that far? Will trees cause LOS problems? Can I attach 3 different modems with 3 different antanae so that not everyone is using the same line to save bandwidth? Any input would be great
Thank you all
Jesse

You can do all that subject to the usual problems with objects in the LOS, rain, snow etc.

I would say your first problem is to talk to DSL providers since most do not allow sharing of a DSL line in that way between multiple homes. since you are effectively acting as a mini ISP even if you don't charge people.

Ok we have decide to get T1 conncetion. We have determined that we will only have maybe 20 users on at one time so have decided on the 1.5 meg service. My only problem now is chosing and antenae. All the omni-directional antenaes I have looked at tell me their dbi rating but i have no idea how far that antenae can reach. Any advice or tips on chosing an antenae? Oh, and do i need to put an antenae on each house or will I simply need some kind of access point in each building?
Thank you for all your help
Jesse

You can contact me at 443-282-6263, that is what I do, its alot more complicated then putting up an antenna, you have to build a wireless bridged infrastructure and the power comes from the radio, not necessarily the antenna, the antenna directs the radio power. Please contact me and we can design/impliment a proper wireless infrasture for your needs.
