Do I need a 2nd IP address?

I have a simple home network with 2 XP pcs and a wireless access point connected to 4 port router on comcast cable modem. All works fine. My question is does this set up require a second IP address? Comcast is charging me $5/mo for a 2nd IP address and I'm not sure I need it. Will my network still work if I discontinue getting that? TIA.

If your NAT router is the run of the mill Linksys, Netgear, etc. or anything else that you would find in most store shelves, then it will only handle one Internet IP at a time. In that case, no, you will not need an additional IP as your SOHO NAT routing equipment can only handle one Internet IP at a time.

Smile Thanks

Thanks cszeto. I have cancelled the 2nd address and all is still working fine so I am saving $5/mo.

Excellent! Thank you for sharing your outcome. Also keep an eye out for their "odd ball" promotions too. They seem to throw those out from time to time with varying spins, sometimes not too bad...
