Could a networked OfficeJet be causing problems?

I recently installed an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 and, to make it available to my network, I plugged the ethernet cable that previously went to my computer into a D-Link DES-1105 data switch, with cables to the printer and to my computer. Since that time, my computer has experienced intermittent problems (delays and hangs) when loading websites or links. Sometimes pages time-out but other times they just continue trying to load indefinitely without success. When I click "Stop" and "Refresh", often the page will load immediately and but sometimes it hangs without loading a second time. The problem seems just as bad on my wife's computer, which is on the network but is hooked directly to the router.

This is a recent problem that seemed to start either immediately after or shortly after adding the OfficeJet into the mix (I didn't take notice of exactly when it happened). The problem is intermittent (i.e., minute to minute, a site will load either instantly or hang up, a site will load but then a link on that host site won't load, etc.) and it doesn't seem to occur as frequently when I load google.com or yahoo.com as compared to, say, marketwatch.com or fidelity.com.

I've check my ISP's speed (cable modem) and everything checks out OK (5Mbps up and 1Mbps down). I updated the firmware on my Linksys BEFSR41 router. I'm running Firefox 3.5.5 as my browser and typically have four or more pages open simultaneously...but that's never been a problem before.

Any thoughts/leads would be appreciated.

Wired and Wireless

Hi,

Currently in my house we have a modem that is connected to a wired router to facilitate the amount of Ethernet cables running through the house that use internet.

Modem--->D-link EBR-2310---->DGL-4500 acting basically as a very expensive access point

The EBR-2310 is a very crumby piece of machinery compared to the DGL-4500 and at this point is a huge waste of money, since the EBR-2310 is acting as the DHCP server instead of the DGL-4500 , and I want the DGL-4500 to act as the main router.

The question I have is can I use the DGL-4500 as the DHCP server and the wired EBR-2310 as some sort of switch or hub to basically direct traffic? Or will this cause problems?

Also I believe the EBR-2310 is causing serious connectivity issues between all computers, so does anyone recommend a better router?

I've got a strange windows xp networking problem. Short story long: my main computer started having some disk problems. Disk check seemed to fix the problems. Except now, I can't connect to the internet through that computer.

This computer is connected to a Motorola SBG900 cable modem using wireless networking.
1) The modem says I'm connected to the internet.
2) I'm capable of connecting to the modem, but not the internet itself.
3) I tried using straight cat5 cable to connect to the modem. No luck.
4) My older computer, which is less updated, connects using cat 5 cable fine. I'm guessing it's not the modem, it's my new computer.
5) Tried ipconfig /release, /flushdns /renew. No such luck. /renew fails because it says my wireless/ethernet ports are not sockets.

I'm out of options, and am not sure what to do. Short of reinstalling drivers or formating, I seem to be out of options I know to try.

Thanks for any help.

I don't pretend to understand networking, so there may be a simple explanation for this, but it has me worried, so I figured I'd better ask here.

I just installed Windows 7. I have 3 PCs hooked via wire to the home network. Tonight, I noticed another PC showing up that I can't identify. At first, I thought it might be my daughter's laptop that has a Wifi transmitter attached, but when she powered down the laptop, the computer still shows on my network. It is only labeled OWNER-S36F7IEE7. When I try to open it, it asks for a password. Could this still be her Wifi, or could it be an intruder? I was going to try and remove it from the network, but I can't figure out how to do that.

Greetings everyone:)
Here's my problem::confused:
I have 2 routers
_1) ASUS multifunction router WL-500W (wireless router/Access Point/Gateway/Print server)._ (http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=nrsjewu78wdDXMOA)
_2) Billion PiPAC 5200 (ADSL wired modem/router)._ (http://www.billion.com/product/adsl/bipac5200s-firewall-adsl2-router.html)
I wanted to connect both of the routers together to make wireless internet connection. but to do that I had to make the WL-500W works as an AP (which is possible from it's options).
It did worked, but I lost the wireless printing, and the WL-500W disappeared from the network (no response when I want to open the WL-500W page).
Note from the links above that the WL-500W should do this feature, but I didn't know how to bridge.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have three computers running windows xp pro sp2.
For all three, I have simple file sharing turned off, accounts set up with (administrator)user name and passwords matching.
I can share files and folders across all three. I can see the shared folders in “my network places”. The folders are password protected.
I have only my user name and password in the ACL file for the shared folders.

When I initially login to the shared folders from another computer with the three computer network, I am prompted for my user name and password. After that I don’t have to provide the user name and password again, unless the computer I am using is rebooted.

I want to be prompted EVERY time I try to access the shared folders. I have tried to shorten the connection time in the lanmanager registry settings from 15 minutes to 1 minute. There is no change. Is there anything that you can suggest?

Thanks

I want to make a wireless network at a small B&B. I want to secure it with a password so the network is secured for other people. I want to have full networking capabilities between my computers but I would like to give my customers the opportunity to have internet access only.

Which accesspoint should I buy? And how do I have to configure it (wep, wpa, peap, ...)?

Thanks very much in advance

I have a small network of a desktop and laptop, both running XP PRO. I set up a network between the 2 that worked first time. Not used it for a while, but now it refuses to work. All I get is ***** workgroup is unavailable, please contact your administrator, or *****(Pc Name) is unavailable, with the usual authentication error messages. Both systems have 1 user, same username and password on both. Both in same workgroup. Both have static IPs, and are in the same sub-net. Firewall settings (Zonealarm) have not changed. The only changes recently, are moving the Desktop to the attic room, and going from wireless(which was intermittant in the attic room) to using HomePlugs (Dlink), from the router, that is next to the master socket, into a homeplug, and a homeplug in the attic room, connected to the ethernet socket. Laptop has always been wireless, but recently replaced the Card with an internal one. Both systems at SP3. Checked ZoneAlarm, and both NICs are in the trusted Zone. Checked the Guest account, and that was off, so enabled the Net Guest account( Unsure why it was off!!). IpConfig, shows nothing obvious, but still I can not get it work work any more. It did work once for me yesterday, but after a couple of mins failed again, and it only worked 1 way. I have tried everything I can think of, but i am stumped. Tried with Zonealarm disabled as well, still nothing. Followed GreenSteads advice, in the sticky, and all seems fine. Any advice????

WRT54G Problem: Wireless Works Fine, Wired Port Connections Don't...
Having trouble with my WRT54g V.3

I have been using it over a year with no problem. All of a sudden my wired connections stop working. I've tried plugging my computer directly into the ports with no success. Tried reseting, rebooting, etc...

Strange part is that the wireless connection still works flawlessly. Any thoughts on why the direct connections do not work? I need them for a printer and a desktop computer without wireless...

My basic settings are as follows:
Time Warner R0oad Runner Cable
Router Name WRT54G
Local IP: 192.168.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server: Enabled
Starting IP: 192.168.1.100
Max # DHCP Users: 50
Everything else is full of zeros...

DDNS: Disabled
MAC Address Clone: Disabled

SEE ATTACHED SCREEN-SHOTS FOR MORE DETAILS

Any thoughts appreciated. I am moderately tech saavy but don't know too much about Networking stuff..

I have a simple home network with 2 XP pcs and a wireless access point connected to 4 port router on comcast cable modem. All works fine. My question is does this set up require a second IP address? Comcast is charging me $5/mo for a 2nd IP address and I'm not sure I need it. Will my network still work if I discontinue getting that? TIA.
