I am working with a Linksys WRT54G and an HP Officejet J6480 All-in-one. The printer loses communication with my laptop frequently and most recently permanantly. I have tried setting up my home network with a new name among many other things. I cannot seem to remove the name frome the network when I use the setup disk for the printer to enable the wireless feature it sees both linksys and the network I began setting up and says that the names are too similar even though connection strength is 0 and the names are different. I have gone into the settings for the printer and the router through the computer and I am worried at this point I am going to get in over my head with some of the menus that I am accessing and changing so I print and document everything in order to change back. I am now setting a static IP for the laptop and printer in hopes to lock in their communication. I have a desktop connected to the network with an ethernet cable and the printer is connected using the 802.11 wireless, these two work fine together. I still am having trouble getting the laptop to recognize the printer using wireless and have to plug in with usb to print which is the whole reason I got the wireless obviously to avoid having to do this. Are there settings which I should change in the router for the static IP on the printer? Any other advise?

Beginning,

Cross-posting/reposting doesn't get answers any quicker. It just confuses things, if different approaches are explored. Your double/cross postings were in inadvertently deleted during its cleanup efforts. Luckily, it was retrievable from my local web cache.

There are also "common courtesy" aspects for others using these forums. So what that means... Unproductive postings (cross-posting, double posting, thread hi-jacking, etc.) ultimately degrade the effectiveness of the forums as an information source for all others.

Sorry. I couldn't figure out how to post a new thread at first. Thanks for reposting my dilemma.

This indicates that the printer is probably setup correctly and working. It appears that the wireless difficulties are mostly around the wireless performance of your notebook/laptop. The following thread covers some of the possible wireless troubleshooting steps to consider.

Just keep in mind to update the settings on your printer, if you do end up changing the SSID on your wireless NAT router.
