I have a VPN connection (PPTP) here at home. It allows me to connect to a discounted DSL connection through wired LAN. In order to connect I am required to enter a username and password provided by the LAN admin. That then "dials" the VPN network, checks the username and password and connects me to the broadband internet via LAN (everything fine till here).

Problem:

When I connect the lan wire to my wireless router (Netgear) and setup a PPTP connection it gets the assigned IP via DHCP on LAN server (fine till here) it even dials tries dialing to the given PPTP server address, but somehow it does not connect to the VPN network and internet access is not provided. I have tried all types of settings and various lan ports on this router, but it doesn't seem to work. But however if I use the router just as a switch providing me LAN DHCP over the wi-fi then I am able to dial the connection through my computer, but I want the router to dial this connection so that who ever may connect to the router can get access to the internet.

Most DSL connections use either PPPoE or PPPoA. PPTP is not as common, so there may be a chance that there is a compatibility/implementation issue between the NAT router and the ISP. Your best bet is to contact the ISP or the NAT router manufacturer for assistance.

It's a LAN based network, it provides high speed internet connection at low rates and does not require a landline to connect through, it runs totally on LAN and connects through a VPN dialer.

Have you contacted your ISP for assistance?

Ye, they say that I would have to buy the latest LInksys router, they were unable to give a solid reason and simply recommeded Linksys, but I dont understand the reason for buying the latest router, when my existing router already has the feature for PPTP dialing.

You might try updating the firmware to your Netgear, but it looks like your ISP recommends Linksys from your own accounts. As stated previously, PPTP is uncommon for most ISPs, so there may be implementation specifics and/or incompatibilities. Another option may be to contact Netgear for support.
