A bit of a newbie, so apologies for not including information that may be necessary.
3 wired computers, a wireless laptop and my son's xbox.
All computers running XP.
A motorola surfboard.
Linksys 150N wireless router.

I decided to take out the Linksys and install a D-Link DIR 825 dual band router. It installed and everything worked but the xbox, which was unable to detect the network. After a series of father/son arguments and some frequent interrupted internet connections, i took the D-link out and went back to the Linksys.

It installed and the computers all see each other but only the wired computers can access the internet. The wireless laptop shows it sees the network and other computers, but cannot renew its IP and cannot access the internet. (it can access it with a wired LAN connection). The Xbox detects the network but cannot connect wirelessly. Previous to all this, I had no issues at all.

I am using DCHP and WEP encryption. I have tried to set static IPs but nothing is working wirelessly. Have spent hours looking through forums for some help. I have not reinstalled any drivers, etc. I feel as though I have confused the network somehow with the router changing and now can't back home. Please help.

Thanks

dave

Try troubleshooting the wireless with all encryption turned off first, then re-enable it afterwards.

It worked. I reset router disabling security. Connected to both internet and Xbox. Then reset WEP security on router using same key and was able to connect to both internet on laptop and Xbox. Thanks so much for the simple but brilliant idea. The next beer is on me. Dave

Good deal, that's the first troubleshooting step for wireless - simplifying the configuration (namely all that encryption stuff). Thanks for sharing your outcome.
