I realize that I may be barking up the wrong tree here, but I wanted you guys to tell me so before i go out and buy a new wireless box.

I have DSL running properly and can connect to it on a wired desktop and my laptop when the Ethernet cable is plugged in. When I switch to WiFi on my laptop, I can no longer see the home network, because the wired connectivity is provided by the 2 Wire portal. I keep trying to figure out a way to configure these two boxes to allow the network to be seen on the laptop in wireless mode also. Here's how I'm connected.

I have AT&T DSL and use the 2 Wire HomePortal 1000HW to get the DSL signal from the wall. Then I take the DSL into the WAN port on the Linksys BEFSR41 router. Then the desktop and the cable for wired connectivity on the laptop are connected to ports 1 and 2 on the Linksys.

Am I screwed, or is there a way to see the home network on Wireless, or do I need to buy a wireless router with built in DSL?

Thanks

If you need more ethernet ports, then a "switch" is the supported method of obtaining more port density. Most manufacturers will not support stacking or nesting multiple NAT routers as they were not designed nor marketed for that.

The 1000HW is already a NAT router. Hooking up an additional NAT router in the form of the BEFSR41 is an unsupported configuration. It is creating a nested NAT (i.e. firewalling) situation which is what you are experiencing. The correct way of adding more ethernet ports is to utilize an ethernet switch instead of the BEFSR41.
