Hi - I Have a strange wireless networking problem.

I have two laptops - one of which is a new one - and a desktop PC. I have a wireless home network which one laptop and the desktop all connect to without any problems (local and internet). The issue I have is with one of the laptops (the new work one) - it doesn't see the home wireless network in it's available networks. It does see my neighbours networks however so the network adapter must be ok, and the other computers in the house see my home wireless network so the router must be ok. It seems to be a problem with one laptop (Toshiba Satellite) and the home wireless network. The laptop connects to the network when wired with an ethernet cable. The strangest thing is that last night when I added a new user profile it found the network for a few hours and worked perfectly but the following day (and thereafter) it can't see it again.

If anyone has any suggestions, it would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance

You might check to ensure that neither the system or the access point has its wireless settings limited to single opposing standards (e.g. 802.11b, 802.11a, etc.). Another check would be to ensure that the access point is not performing MAC filtering against the system's wireless NIC.

If the subject system is company issued, then your first point of support is actually your company's IT, since they may have implemented settings specific to the business. In some instances, you may also be violating IT policies, depending on what is in place versus what you may be doing with the company's resource.
