I new problem has cropped up on my home network. I'm using a Linksys Wireless Router. It's been working fine for a couple of years now with the following devices.

HP Notebook (XP)
Roku Net Device (allows you to watch Netflix movies) & always powered on
Sony Playstation 3

Recent additions:

Apple iTouch
Sony Desktop

Recently I've begun to experience IP conflicts when I tried to use the Apple and HP at the same time. Today, it was the desktop and the Playstation 3. I barely know enough to check the IP address and the router did assign the same IP address to both of them. The Roku is always on & I checked its IP address which was different from the desktop and playstation.

So is there a limit as to how many wireless connections I can have at one time? I use Comcast, do you suppose they limit those sessions? If so apparently my limit is 2.

I don't have a clue as to where to look. Since I've never had this problem before I'm assuming it has something to do with the number of devices. Any help would be appreciated including if you think there is no such limitation.

Thanks in advance

to add further to my previous post. I forgot to mention I have a printer server running also. So now I've determined the following IP addresses were assigned.

Roku net appliance .100
desktop top assigned .101
print server assigned .102
laptop assigned .103

All of those appear that they can run simultaneously. If the Playstation attempts to logon it either can't or creates an ip conflict because it's assigned .101 by the router. The iTouch won't logon at all.

Does this sound like a limit of either the router (Linksys WRTg) or some Comast limitation? Is there a better setup that will enable me to run all of these simultaneously?

Thanks

Yes, I know, I have no life. Working on PC's on a Saturday night. The last posting I promise. Second time I wrote this one, IP conflict destroyed me in mid post.

Shut down all devices except:

Roku assigned .100
Desktop assigned .101

As soon as I try to connect the Playstation to the network, the IP conflict occurs. Checked all the settings in the Playstation, everything in automatic.

The goal here is for the desktop to act as a media server using PlayOn software thereby allowing the playstation to broadcast Hulu, etc. I had it working in principle with my laptop, but the laptop's processor was to slow to stream video without choppiness. Hence the purchase of the desktop. Only recently has the IP conflict began appearing with all devices being involved at one time or another.

Argggh!

You might check the DHCP server section of your router's configuration. It should normally provide a large enough default range for most home networking needs. You are running more devices than most, but nothing near the addressing/functionality potential or limits of your NAT router.
