Hi, I hope someone can help. :)

ASUS Notebook N80Vc/r/n/m/b Series
Intel Core 2 Duo T6400
4 gigs Ram
Windows Vista Premium (64 bit) Service Pack 1
Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN card
Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)
Microsoft 6to4 Adapter
Netgear WGR614 v7 (54 Mbps) Wireless Router
WPA-PSK[TKIP], Channel 11, Mode g and b
Motorola SB5101 Surfboard Cable Modem

I lost the ability to connect to my router via my wireless connection on my laptop. I can still see the network being broadcast from the laptop. Also, my ps3 is connected wirelessly, so I feel confident ruling out router/cablemodem/service provider. Still, I reset cable modem / router, again ps3 logged back in, but laptop won't.

I reset the laptop, then opened network connections and clicked to open the wireless connection. A box popped up informing me that I need to enter the passkey. (I haven't changed any settings yet, so its odd that its asking for a passkey) I enter the passkey, and it goes to the "connecting to network" screen. After a minute or so a message comes up saying that "Cannot connect to Network". I am sure that the keyphrase is correct. I re-entered the passkey on the ps3 and it works.

When I click "Diagnose the problem", Windows says that "required user input was not received".

Now when I hover my mouse over the Network icon on the system tray, it shows my ethernet Network: Access: Local and Internet. Underneath it shows (wireless) Network: Limited Connectivity.

While writing this message, several times a bubble has come up from the system tray saying that a network passkey is required to connect, click here to resolve.. but after trying that, still nothing.

If I plug my laptop directly into the router, it connects without a hitch. I logged into the router this way to confirm passkey and other settings were correct, and they are. Clicking on the network connection, properties: the security setting is set to WPA-Personal, encryption type TKIP.

The only thing I can think that I did to have caused this was clicking the power button on the laptop to put into sleep or standby mode. After looking at a couple posts about Vista not powering network cards back up, I went into Device Manager, clicked on the wi-fi network card, power settings, and unchecked the option for windows to power down the card, reset the computer, still nothing.

While in Device manager I noticed a yellow flag on the Microsoft 6 to 4 adapter. With a little research it seems as though this error should not be causing the problem... but maybe it is. It says "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers for the device (code 31).

Besides the 6 to 4 driver, I have an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN card and a Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0), both of which are working fine according to windows and are up to date.

It appears that I simply haven't entered the passkey in correctly, but I am 100% sure that that is not the case. I think the problem must be due to something going haywire after coming back from sleep/standby mode.

The Firmware on the router is up to date, and all the critical updates for Vista are downloaded and installed. I have Windows Firewall, Windows Defender and Auto Updates on. These settings were all in place prior to any wireless connection problems.

If there is any further info I can provide, please let me know. I can usually get my computer to work, but this one has me stumped.

Thanks,
mike

Instead of the passkey/pass-phrase, try entering the hexadecimal value directly. The passkey/pass-phrase computation can vary across manufacturers as there is no standard.

I'm not using a passphrase to generate a passkey, as is done with WEP. Rather I'm using WPA-PSK [TKIP], with a password I set within the router. If I'm looking at my network connections screen, click on properties for my wireless network, its set to WPA-Personal, and TKIP for security. When I reenter the password, an error message comes up saying "Error Saving Wireless Profile. Windows has encountered an error saving the wireless profile. Specific parameter: the parameter is incorrect."

If I misunderstood what you meant, please let me know. And thanks for responding :)

I tried uninstalling my wireless adapter, upon restart, after windows reinstalled the driver, I again tried to enter my password, after thinking for a several minutes it again said that I couldn't connect to the network, when I hit diagnose, Windows replied "Wireless Association failed due to an unknown reason."
