Hi all,
I am trying to set up a real network to practice with, in the hope of writing some certification exams eventually. I have attached a rather rough representation of the network. It might appear rudimentary to the expert, but it is a huge mountain before me. Please, see what you can do to help.
Here are the things I want to be able to do from inside the network:
1. Operate a DNS server to resolve the names of the hosts on the LAN.
2. Share resources amongst the hosts.
3. Hosts should have direct access to the internet via the router (not via
the server).
Here are the things I want to be able to do from outside the network:
1. Connect to the server, running Windows 2003 Enterprise edition.
2. Access the shared folders on the network.
My dilema:
1. The ISP assigns an IP address, say 86.1.11.112 to me.
2. My domain name is dynamically mapped to this IP address.
3. But my server is behind a firewall and so, the IP address is assigned to
the router.
This means the IP address is not directly associated with the server.
4. I want to be able to connect to the server from anywhere outside my
home and download or upload files to the shared folders.
How would the router(Netgear 54 mbps wireless router) be able to, correctly, route external requests to the server?
Thanks for your help.
