I have a third party Wlan router (2gate router (the one AT&T sold 2006)), and connected to the Verizon DSL in Maryland just fine for over a year now. From Dec, 29th, on the router suddenly haa problems connecting to the internet at all. What happens

- The DSL link light is solid green
- The Internet light is solid green as well
- after 5 seconds of stable conditions the DSL light suddenly turns red, begins to flash and the synchronization starts all over again
- then both lights become green again
- then the DSL kicks out etc etc over and over again

At no time I can connect to the internet. I ran some diagnostics and the DSL link seems to be fine, though depending on synchronization status I see all clear or no clear for the rest.
That the DSL link is working is proven, A verizon modem just does fine, though it here and then at start-up experiences the same problem.

Now the question:
- could verizon changed sth in the way I connect that I now miss (As I always seem to crash when the router logs in to Verizon central for internet)?
- Is my modem broken?

I think you might be referring to a 2Wire, not sure there is anything along the lines of a 2gate. It sounds like from your description, it is one which is an integrated all-in-one unit including the DSL modem.

There is a chance that Verizon may have changed their DSL settings/parameters. If so, they may be able to remotely adjust their DSL "modem-type" equipment too. Which may explain your situation, if you are not running Verizon supplied DSL equipment. If that is the case, your choices may be to contact either 2Wire or Verizon for assistance.

One other possible situation is a change or failure in your interior telephone wiring configuration, which may include:

- Addition of more telephone equipment
- Addition of DSL filtering equipment

You might try disconnecting any unneeded or new DSL filter/telephone equipment as troubleshooting in that case.

At this point, your situation is not networking related in the sense of customer/subscriber networking equipment. It might be cable plant, DSL modem or actual ISP difficulties based upon your description.

Thank You for this very good analysis. My modem is indeed a 2Wire, shame on me, and an all-in-one unit. I will contact verizon to find out more then..
