Although this is a networking forum, of course a network is no use if the PCs are dead.
If you want dead PCs, try Windows XP SP3. Hopefully you will be luckier than me. My trusty reliable 5 yr old Tower PC (2.8GHz, 2 GB mem, 300 GB storage, oodles of programs and data), never booted again after SP3. Thankfully I back it up every night.
SP3 - be very careful out there.
