What is the correct way to name a Win PC workgroup on a LAN? Seems any non-spaced word is acceptable. Now, the network setup wizard provides options for a domain name "name.dns", if not chosen the only Net ID would be the workgroup name, presumably ok for peer to peer interactions.
Now if the system is to be networked with UNIX machines, FreeBSD and others how should this be best handled?

I have a system so set up, using just the workgroup name and using the same name on the UNIX machines, no DNS extensions. However, the system seems to have some instabilities, sometimes it works fine and other times it doesn't => with responses of "Allworks is not accessible. The network name cannot be found." in a Windows Explorer Dialog Box. It also seems to cause problems on the UNIX boxes with Sendmail, producing =>

Windows Workgroup names have no direct relationship with SMTP. You might want to take a closer look at the DNS infrastructure that you may have in place instead.
