ok sry but this is going to get rather long, ill put it in bullet points to make it easyer to follow
there are three pc's involved ones mine and shall be called (shiny) ones my brothers and called (flaky) and my dads is called (weird)
*we have BT broadband
*the homehub broke for the third time so we decided to get a better router
*there are currently 3 pc's, 2 using usb stick wireless adapters (flaky and weird) and (shiny) useing the adapter built into the asus p5b deluxe motherboard
*the oldest pc was VERY flaky (flaky ofc :) ) with the usb so we swaped it for a card, we did the same with (weird). these cards were the netgear ones that go with the router
*we brought this router and this modem
http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/RangeMaxWirelessRoutersandGateways/WPN824.aspx
http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=DSL-320T
*the modem worked fine when we tried it on its own (on flaky), the router detected the modem fine, the router provided the internet for the pc it was wired into for the setup (flaky)
*when i tried to connect using my new pc (shiny) it connects and shows a high signal strength but when i try to open a webpage i get the 'no connection' error, any program that uses the internet also shows it as disconnected. ive checked and packets are being both sent and received and iive tried turning all the anti virus software off including windows firewall, ive also double checked all the wep codes and other settings.
*its defiantly connected as i can even get into the routers options wirelessly
*we then thought we would test the router on the other two pc's. the pc we had wired the router up to to config it (the flaky one), dropped the connection the instant it got it and then reconnected and disconnected etc etc, this is exactly the prob it had when we tried to connect it to an access point through my pc(shiny) with the usb adapter(so i doubt this is due to the router)
*(weird) pc connected but lost the connection every 10 mins or so.
soooo, to recap one pc connects but gets no internet (shiny), one connects and then disconnects (flaky), and the third (weird) drops ever 10 mins or so.
unfourtunatly thats not the end. we then treid to just use my pc (shiny) as an access point but the card in (werid) won't pick up the network and when it does it just says 'renewing ip address' and if you repair the connection it gets stuck on renewing the ip, and (flaky) does its old connect disconnect dance.
im sorry the post is so long and thank you to any who read the whole thing, answers to any part are very welcome :)
