Hi

I have recently tried to set up a home wireless network with a Belkin wireless G router and wireless g USB adapter kit. My pc is running Windows XP. I used
the easy install wizard software that came with the router to install it on my main desktop pc . Then I installed the software that came with the USB adapter on my second pc that I want to connect to wirelessly. This all seemed to work without a hitch at first but then the wireless PC kept freezing intermittently. At first I thought the problem was with the pc, and considered various troubleshooting avenues that are typically linked with a pc freezing or locking up. None of these worked. As a last measure I uninstalled the USB adapter software, and this has cured the lockup problem. Trouble is I can no longer connect to the internet.

Is there a way that I can use the Belkin router and adapter using Windows
XP's built in networking software? I have tried to see if the Belkin is
compatibile with Windows Connect Now technology, but cannot find any info on this. It appears to me the Belkin software is causing the lockups, so am
hoping XPs inbuilt capabilites will solve the problem.

Thanks for any help

John

Hey,

I have a Belkin Wirless G+ MIMO Router running on all 3 of my currently operational XP machines and have never experienced this problem before. Furthermore, all my machines are using static IP addresses which i have configured with windows own wireless connection software, therefore i believe i am running the same kind of network you are trying to run.

Can I ask what it is doing when the computer freezes? And a brief summary of how you installed your router please, so that i can understand your situtation better.

Thanks

Colin

Hi Colin

thanks for your reply. I installed the router using the easy install disc that came with the pc. I connect to the internet via a broadband cable modem, so I configured it for a dynamic IP address. I also enabled all pcs on the network the obtain their IP address automatically. It usually freezes when I am on the internet, but every time I remove the Belkin software it never freezes. Weird!? I tried using the USB adapter on my wireless pc with just the driver installed and not the Belkin software. This seemed to work at first but after about 5 hours it froze. I then uninstalled the driver for the USB adapter and the machine has not froze once. I am still testing to see if it will lock up after prolonged use, but so far it has gone about 48 hours with no problem.

Really baffled because I have not seen anyone else have a similar problem.

thanks again
John

Hey John

Yeah that is really baffling. I guess it may just have been a driver problem. Although, if you have kept all your machines up to date with patches and services packs and the likes I dont see why it should be doing that, since i am pretty sure its not a problem with Belkin, the manufacturers I swear by :P.

If you've got it working with the way you have it set up just now though then i guess thats problem solved and in an unprofessional reflection on networking am going to say, "somtimes whatever works for you, only works for you and you should stick to it :P" lol.

Sorry i couldn't be much help though. But give me a shout if you need anything else.

Colin

Hi

I my desktop PC keeps locking out, and I swear it's because of the USB Belkin wireless card or drivers.

I've tried everything on the PC - anti-spyware, fixit utilities, checked cpu temp - but narrowed it down to the Belkin problem.

But I still don't have a solution. Any ideas?
