I just got a new laptop. It has Vista on it, and I attempted to connect to my home network, but it gave me a message that said my security settings were not compatible. So I went into the settings, double checked everything- I used the right SSID, and I manually entered the 26-digit 128-bit hex key. It still would not connect. I can get online if I connect to a neighbor's unsecured network, but I'd prefer to get this fixed. The network looks like this: cable, going to a DLink 624, which has one box running Server 2003 cabled to it. The other box is XP, and up until today was connected wirelessly, with a DLink adapter (DWL G132).

I logged onto the router config screen at http://192.168.0.1 and updated the firmware for the router, and now NONE of my wireless connections work. Right now I have my laptop cat5e abled to the router, to get online.

I try to connect, repair, diagnose, nothing works, everything says contact your network administrator. I AM the network administrator, and I say everything looks like it should work, but for some reason it doesn't. If anyone can help with this, I would be VERY appreciative. If I have not provided enough information, just ask and I will do my best to provide it.

Thanks in advance,
Chris Sentman

Try connecting with no encryption in the Dlink. Then introduce encryption. There is no magic fix.

Yep, noticed that just today. For some reason, WEP will not connect to the wireless network if it's Vista. Now I'm forced to use WPA2, AES, Pre-Shared.

Anyone else found a solution to this?

PS Tried using XP WEP, works fine, it's just Vista it seems.

Unless you have clients that can't do WPA2/WPA then I can't think of a good reason to use WEP anyway given its insecurity.

WEP does work with Vista. It might be more around "pass phrase" as Microsoft has never supported it.

Ahh ic. I thought WEP is more secure and effective... Thanks for the info.. very new with wireless stuff.

Yep, might be the passphrase it seems.. I guess I'll use the other methods then.

Thanks!!
