Hello.

I have a wireless network at home. I use a Netgear DG834G v2 router (IP 192.168.0.1) and 2 laptops with wireless conections.
I have set both IP address as fixed IP's:
Laptop1 - 192.168.0.3
Laptop2 - 192.168.0.7

I ran the XP (both are running XP home SP2) network wizard and connected them both to MSHOME.

Now, when I go into laptop1 Network Neighbourhood, I can see the shared folders on laptop1 and laptop2

When I do the same on laptop2 I can only see the shared folders on laptop2.

Why is this?

Also, my main question is, can I play network games on them?

I tried with Motocross Madness 1. Installed it on both and set up a game on laptop1. I tried to connect to it using laptop2 by entering the IP address of the router and also tried the laptop1 IP as well but it didn't work.

Am I right in thinking I should be able to play over my network and if so, how?

Many thanks

Should work just fine.
Why are you using fixed IPs? It can conceal connection problems. Better to use automatic IP and DNS.

How you connect for a game depends on the game. Normally one PC would be the game server so it would be the PC IP (computername) you use rather than the router.
