I have tried my networking at Hpna, the network works great, internet works great, until, I pick up the phone. Network connection is lost until I hang the phone up. Any ideas? I may be doing this wrong, or is it just that way? Please help. lol

Thanks for the reply, although I know something is interfering, but I guess what I want to know, is that just the way it is? How can just one pair of wires (green and red) support the phone and the network at the same time? I know the articles I've read say that it will support them all at once. I know DSL, that pair will support both. Does the fact that I am hooking this up on a network the uses a cable connection rather than DSL? Does all four wires in the phone line have to be hooked up too? If you can help with any of these questions that would maybe teer me the right way. Thank You

Not sure what else you are looking for, but the quoted thread points out your possible interference situations based upon your description:

- Too many phone extensions???
- Too "large" of a cable plant (e.g. too much wiring)???
- Faulty phone equipment???

The last one is easy, if it only occurs with a specific phone.

As for the working specifications of the technology, the following link provides a pretty good description - http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-phone-line-networking.htm.

Outside of the specification limits, HPNA mimics the requirements of a typical telephone, hence the "HP" (Home Phone) portion of HPNA.

Install a DSL filter for *all* telephone (including wall phones) and fax machines. Telephone line/wall phone filters are numerous and cheap on eBay.

papa,

There may be two different DSL implementations, one where the filter is placed on the POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) devices and another where the filter is placed on the DSL modem. The filters will help, but it does not necessarily increase the performance where the device and cable-plant limits have been reached, it should isolate faulty POTS equipment though (assuming it the the former DSL implementation).
