Hi

Let me explain what I have and what I am trying to do.

I have 2 Main computers One running Vista Ultimate and the other running windows xp media edition, and also a Buffalo linkstation pro connected to my linksys router. They are networked together in a workgroup. There are two main users of the computers, Myself and my partner, we each have a unique username and password that is the same for both computers. I have setup various shares for folders and drives on the two computers and also setup up various share folders on the Linkstation, again which are linked to our user accounts to allow specific access to me or my partner. so access is all fine, she can only access the drives or folders that i have set permission for.

However what I am trying to achieve is that when she browses My Network Places, she doesnt see the shares on either computer or the linkstation that she cant access, because there are quite a few various shares when she uses the computer the list in my network places is quite big yet she only got access to about 4 folders, if she clicks on one she not got permission for it either comes up denyed or prompts for a password if it is on the linkstation, how can i make it so she cant see the shares she doesnt have access to or drives i dont want her to access? Can it be done? the $ symbol is something i seen but doesnt this mean i then have to MAP every share as a network drive again on my system, having got already 8 physical drives and 2 virtual drives it doesnt seem the way to go, or is it?

Thanks in advance

Regards

James

you might not have permissions to use this network resources

The point of 'simple file sharing' (the default on XP) is to provide sharing, not hide it. The $ prefix can do what you want but is not really meant for that.

More complex share management requires turning off simple file sharing and using NTFS permissions, one of which is to hide (i.e. not even List) the share.
