I am having problems setting up a D-Link DI 614+ router to play a multiplayer LAN game (not Bnet). I have read all the suggestionsand guides for IP filter,Firewall etc. with no luck. I guess I need to understand what ports to open for all the computers on my network (4). I am running WinXP on all systems and have the firewall set up with the exception rule for the game. My previous router was a Linksys BSFR -41, I did not have this problem with this particular router. One of the ports died on it after 6 1/2 years of use. All tips and suggestions on this matter are greatly appreciated and welcome.

TIA

If this is a LAN based game (e.g. does not connect over the Internet), then there should not be any router configuration needed. You may still need to configure or disable the individual PC-based firewalls per machine though.

If it is Internet based, then you should be able to mimic your previous Linksys configuration on the D-Link as the general features, including port forwarding and triggering, are pretty similar. If not, then it's a call to D-Link for detailed support of how their product is running in a different fashion and in getting it to work with the game/application. You may still need to configure the individual PC-based firewalls separately.
