I have a main computer where i have installed an ethernet card.
through this card i have an internet connection. but to be able to access the internet i have to dial a PPPoE connection with a username and pass.
Now, i have set up a home network with my brother's computer using a crossover cable and 2 network cards.
So on my computer i now have 2 network connections and one PPPoE connection.
note that the PPPoE connection does not work unless the network connection works.
now i want to share the connection with my brother's computer.
1) tried ICS, shared the network connection once and the PPPoE connection another time. both times the client computer has been assigned ip but no internet connection.
It is very confusing since there are 2 connections to access the internet:the network connection and the PPPoE. and ICS only allows 1 connection sharing.
2) tried numerous proxy servers, all didn't work. Wingate for example did not find the server.
3) tried to do bridge connections. but as soon as i establish the bridge between the 2 network connections i am not able to connect to the PPPoE anymore, nor from the client computer(my brother's).

so i'm stuck here.
please help :)

You should share the PPPoE connection and not the network adapter itself.

Make sure that the 2nd adapter on the sharing PC doesn't have a firewall enabled.

If you can afford yourself, buy a cheap router (with or without wireless) to share the connection, and you will also be able to turn off your computer while the other one can still be connected.
Here is a guide for how to set it up. Good luck.

i tried sharing the PPPoE connection, the client PC is assigned an ip but still no internet access.
There are no firewall installed on either computers.
1)Is there a way i can check if ICS is working other than a internet browser.
2)I read somewhere that sometimes PPPoE connections cannot be shared, is that true.
3)Can a router solvemy problem? cause if my connection cannot be shared i'm not gonna go through the trouble of buying a router.
4)And last question, can a network bridge help? why i can't connect using PPPoE after i do a network bridge?
thanks.

Are you running WinXP SP2 on both machines? I know WinME/98 is less friendly with regards to internet sharing.

1. yes. you can try to ping. Check also that the DNS in the TCP/IP configuration is set for automatically.
2. I don't see a reason why. Bridging probably will be a problem, but internet sharing (routing) should work.
3. A router will surely solve your problem, as long it supports the PPPoE protocol and most average routers do. it will also allow you to work form the client when the first computer is off, and you will not need to dial the PPPoE.
4. Briding will probably won't work for you, I think bacause of the reason you won't be able to get two IP addresses.
