Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Network Impact of AIM Virus
Peer-to-Peer network with 4 computers running XP SP2 shared drives, internet connection and printers without problems. 5 weeks ago an AIM virus infected the ICS computer. Now ICS computer does not share drives or printer with other peers. ICS, however, still works.
Message displayed:
"Logon failure: user has not been granted the requested logon type for this computer"
Looking for reason and method to eliminate this problem. Help appreciated.
Virus was eradicated.

Check these:
XP gives access to its shares via the Net Guest Account. (Note, the local guest account in user accounts should be off).
Net Guest Account access is enabled by default in XP, but check it:
At command prompt:
>Net user guest
Should return a line with 'Account active yes'.
If not active use:
>Net user guest /active:yes
(Still leave the user guest account off)
See link for explanation of guest account: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300489/
Check XP Security policies:
- Access this computer from the network: add guest
- Network access:Sharing and security model... -> Guest only
- Deny access to this computer from the network-> check Guest is not here.
To Greenstead,
Thanks, but that did not do it. The access is yes, but still not can see those two PCs on the network.

Well, documentation on the AIM virus does not indicate any permanent damage or I would suggest you repair XP.
I would suggest you continue looking thry my TCP/IP checklist. Also you might unmake and remake the shares.
