Hello,

I have a Toshiba PCX5000 wireless cable-modem-router that has been working great providing internet access to my Mac and an old windows laptop running XP Professional for well over a year. I am trying to add a brand new Windows XP Home laptop to the network and in fact I easily added it, but when I did, my mac suddenly did not have a connection to the internet.
I was finally able to get the mac and the XP home both working together, but then the XP Professional wouldn't come on. So, all 3 definitely can connect, just not all 3 together.
In the router Configuration screen under "Only selected addresses may access your wireless network." , I have added the 3 ethernet addresses for the 3 computers, and I check them all (to make them selected) and press the apply button, but every time I return to the configuration screen one of the listed computers is unchecked.
I tried putting all three computers on the same channel but am still having the same problem.
Any ideas would be most appreciated, I've run out of them.

Thanks.
Pat

are you sure it is a Router? or is it just a modem with the jacks in for connectivity? if it's the ladder then most ISP's only allow for 2 IP addresses per account to access the net at one time. after that there is usually a charge to get more ip addresses.

If it actually is a router, and only broadcasting 1 IP to the internet, then you may need a firmware update from the company to fix a flaw in the router's security. are you using MAC filtering or is it just an IP list?

Yes, I am sure it is a router; the datasheet for it is here:
http://www.toshiba.com/taisnpd/products/PCX5000_datasheet.pdf
I am entering the Mac addresses in the router software to say allow only these computers to connect.

you might have to e-mail toshiba tech support about this one, since it is most likely an issue with the router's internal software. or you could try their tech support line and have them wlak you thru the setup, and if it gives you the same problems you can ask for higher tier support.

Problem solved! Turns out the cable modem router was bad; I was surprized that it only lasted 3 years, but after I bought another one all the problems disappeared. Thanks for your help.
