hey guys i'm new here but i have a question about a problem i've been having. I have a small home network, there are the total of 4 computers i have on this network. Three of them are connected to the router through a wired connection, The last computer is connected to the router through a wireless connection. The 3 that are connected through wires can load webpages/sites. The last one (which is connected through wireless connection) can not load any webpages/sites. What is my problem? Is something wrong with my router? How can i fix the problem?

have you setup and verified the connection on the wireless pc to the router? can you ping the router? is there any security setup on the router?

try updating to the latest firmware for the router, then try to get the wireless pc to connect without any security if it has been enabled.

yes i tried pinging the router and i was able to, but when i ping websites i get a server timed out. I'm sure i have the newest firmware because i just updated yesterday. The router does have internal security, but i've disabled it. The router i have is a netgear WNR834B.

Sounds like a DNS issue. try inputting your DNS IP statically into your router from the isp, and then put the router's dns statically into the pc that keeps losing connecton. also try re-installing the card on the computer thats dropping the connection.

make sure to verify the other steps listed in my post.

i've also tried turnning off the wireless connection and connecting the computer through wires and it works fine, i just can't load any webpages when its on a wireless connection. I've never had this problem before but in the last month it's been getting on my nerve. I'll try reinstalling the card and see what happens. If you got any more ideas to help i would greatly appreciate it.

I'm having almost the same problem. XP operating system. Brand new Linksys router. One laptop with a wireless card (it is 4 years old though). I set up everything, and it worked fine. Then all of a sudden, can't load any webpages. The signal is excellent and it works if I hook up directly to the cable. I reinstalled/reconfigured the router and it worked again for a few days. Then, just a little while ago, same problem. I don't want to have to reinstall it all over again. What's the problem? Davis, can you explain that DNS issue in more detail? (I'm not that computer savy). Thanks.

It seems like we all may be somewhat misconfigured. This post was generated on a Dell laptop with an Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG wireless card communicating via a Linksys WAP11 and a Linksys Router. The router is my DNS server. There are two desktops wired to the router along with the WAP11. This network has been functional for quite some time (internet connection sharing, printer sharing, etc.).

On to my headache, I had to do a XP Home reinstall on an old HP xf145 laptop last weekend (son surfing without protection and caught a virus). The operating system has been patched to SR2. Ever since the reinstall, I have been unable to establish a TCP/IP connection with the network wirelessly. (I wired up the HP to download and install SR2 and confirmed TCP/IP, printer and file sharing etc. via the router.) The HP is using a Linksys WPC54G ver. 3. Both the Linksys software configuration tool and XP's WZC report RF communication to the WAP11. ipconfig / all confirms that the laptop is automatically configuring an IP address outside the range of my network. ping confirms no connectivity to router. I confirmed operation of the laptop and WPC54G on a wireless setup at work earlier today with 128-bit encryption. I had some intermittent glitches but recovered by simply refreshing the web page upon each occurrence. Any ideas short of replacing the WAP11 to kickstart the HP back into wireless life at home?

Netgear WNR834B problem...

Let me be the first to say, you are not doing anything wrong, it is the firmware of the router that is the problem...

Let me guess, You are attempting to connect using a B or G wireless card? Your wireless connection lets you get to all the shared rosources on your local area network, but web connections are not possible?

This is a known problem and Netgear is hiding it.

I have been told by their level 2 tech support that they are supposed to have a fix comming out within the next several weeks...

Jim :-)

Update: the new software version makes everything all better so far.

The update you want to make sure you have is V1.0.2.4 dated 07-14-2006

The router should work fine once the update is applied.

About the reply you got... It is a level one tech support form that they are sending to everyone. If your connection works with V1.0.2.4 just ignore what they are asking you to do.

I can honestly say they are not getting their moneys worth from the level one support guys they are contracted with...
