Hi,

When I use my laptop to connect to my home network.....after 5 mins it keeps disconnecting I either have to restart laptop or wait 5 mins to get back on the network....

Any ideas why this happens?

Does it have anything to do with W2C software on the laptop?....

Pls help

Thanks in advance...

P.S. wifi is on a laptop which has xp pro, desktop has xp home on it and is connected to a netgear wireless router using an RJ45....

What is your distance between points?

sometimes 1.5 - 2 metres, sometimes 10 metres....

Somebody suggested I update the netgear router firmware and also to try changing the channel.....

As I am a networking n00b my only apprehension to updating router firmware is that I may lose all my current settings,,,,,is this possible?

thanks for replying

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

setup is as follows: 4 pcs (2 desktops and 2 laptops)

1x wireless netgear router
1x netgear network card
all apart from one laptop are using xp home sp1

so 2 desktops and the laptop with the netgear network card can access network i.e. share files and internet connection...

the other laptop is using win xp pro sp2 and has inbuilt wifi...this laptop drops connection after 1 min....but can see the network and access it even tho for 1 min etc....this laptop has norton premierworks like the other pcs....

so took the troublesome laptop to a wifi hotspot and it did not drop its connection...it maintained it for an hour +...no problems....

why will this laptop not maintain connection when being used on the home network?

is it a software conflict issue? if yes in what way?

all ideas would be most appreciated....

thanks
