Hello, all.......new to this site. I need help.

I have an older Acer Aspire 2100. Win98se, AMD-K6, 3gb hard, 128mb ram, one pci slot. I am trying to modernize it by replacing the old internal modem with a new wireless pci adapter card. The card is a fairly generic nic bought on ebay. It lists itself as compatible w/ Win98 (though not specifically with SE).

I have removed all traces of old modem from the system ( I think). I've uninstalled it from control panel; deleted it from Device Manager; deleted the ghost in Safe Mode. Done just about everything except Registry issues. I have run the setup disk and installed the drivers (I believe).

When I physically put the card in the pci slot and turn on the 'puter, the puter powers up, but won't boot up. I have checked the seating in the slot, etc...

Any ideas on why the 'puter won't even boot up? Registry? Voltage issues between mobo/chipset and card?...

I'm sinking over my head.........HELP!!

Thanks all.....

Get another card, if you search well you can find a card for $5 or free after rebate.

if looking for psychological "security" get an Intel Por card (goes for about $25).
