I want to connect to my network from outside of my home. But for now trying to assess the situation internally. Connecting with laptop on network (wireless) to XP Pro desktop on network (wired) through RDC, or at least trying.
I have a XP Pro computer with RDC available, remote users turned on, users assigned, port 3389 opened on a linksys wireless router with the correct ip address accessing the application. I can see shared files on each computer, I can ping each computer.
I verified workgroup names are all the same. I verified computer name trying to connect to.
When clicking in drop down in RDC, Browse for more, click on the plus sign next to my workgroup, says "...domain/workgroup does not contain any Terminal Servers".
I was told the theory was that you can connect from inside your own network by connecting to the computer name rather than the external ip.
Is there anything I can check? I went through the checklist and other resources for networking. I am not sure it is the network but at this point the actual software, but it involves setting up a network connection. So any help at this point would be appreciated.
