hi
im a user in india....im connected to the internet 24hrs ....the setup goes like this...:
im connected into a LAN....the guy who owns this LAN is connected to an isp....think he's got an isdn connection or somethin..he distributes it among us.....now the prob here is all my ports seem to be blocked....now when i went n asked him to open my ports he...refused....now is there a way i can open my ports thru port mappin as my system is the client system!!!!???

i dont use a firewall....im connected thru an ethernet card!!
pls help!!!

He most likely uses a NAT router of some kind. By default it blocks all incoming ports unless they are opened from your side by an outgoing connection initiated by your PC. It is not so unreasonable of him because if he forwards ports to your PC then they are not available to other PCs on your LAN.

Well, thats the problem - you cannot initiate a connection from the internet side of the LAN. With some applications you cannot open the ports that are needed even from your side because some applications talk on different ports, some of which are initiated from the internet side.

This problem does not occur when you are using an application which you initiate within the LAN and the internet side responds on the same port. e.g. if you use FTP to download a file then you initiate the connection on port (137 I think) and the FTP server sends the data back using the same port. That works fine. But some applications (e.g. voice or video applications) talk back on a different port and will not get through.

It depends what application you want to use.

im usin a p2p client...n i need to open 4662 n 4672 n 1214 ports!
is there software or somethin which can open ports!!???

pls help!!!
