hello ppl

at home i use outlook express to send/recieve emails using the tiscali isp. How do i use outlook express to send emails from work when work has BT as their ISP, I have tried all the setting outlook to all the BT smtp servers that are publically available to no avail.

I know i can use my isp's web based email, i just want the features that OE has at work if poss.

thanks

Most ISP's block relaying email to another ISP's email servers because of spammers. Your best bet, IMHO, is to use the web based email client while at work or a SSL proxy like Mail2Web. You must be using a POP3 account to use this service...

Another solution is to use a VPN or Secure Shell (SSH) tunnel to your home PC and run XP Pro Remote Desktop or UltraVNC (or any flavor of VNC for that matter) through the tunnel. That way you operate your home desktop from work just like your sitting in front of it. Personally I use a SSH tunnel and Remote Desktop to connect to my home LAN and desktop from public wireless hotspots, sort of what your trying to do...

Of course before you do that you should contact your work network administrators for guidance. There may be company policies about connecting an untrusted PC/network, ie. your home PC/network, to a trusted PC/network, ie. your work PC/network.

There is a small number of ISPs that do support ASMTP or "Authenticated" SMTP in which relaying through the SMTP host is allowed after logging into the host with a user name and password combination. In those situation, the user name and password combinations are typically the ISP account information. That might be worthr checking into with your ISP, if there is a strong need/desire to have "disconnected" access to your email.

One other requirement to keep in mind under that arrangement, the email program in use will also require support of ASMTP - in which OE does (at least the latest versions).
