I have checked the forums and did not see a question/response that seems to fit:

I have 2 computers, the Main (Win2000 OS, connected via D-Link NIC to Tobshiba Cable Modem, also connected via LinkSys NIC to LinkSys hub), and the Childrens' (Win2000 OS, to be connected via LinkSys NIC to LinkSys hub).

What I want is to be able to connect to the I'net ONLY on the Main computer, but I want to be able to share files/printer between the 2 computers, and would love to be able to play multi-player games.

I'm looking for confirmation: If I connect the cable modem directly to the D-Link NIC (and NOT to the hub), Main can connect to the 'net, but Childrens' will not be able to.

Can I bind file/printer sharing ONLY to the LinkSys NICs?

Any help from the experts and experienced here will be MOST welcome. Thanks.

Yes, what you propose to do should work.

Check you have not unintentionally installed ICS on the main computer and there are no software bridges appeared under network connections. Also check the D-link properties has only TCP/IP checked and NOT Client for MS or File & Printer sharing.

On your other Linksys NICs properties (on both PCs) you should have all TCP/IP, Client for MS and File & Printer sharing checked.

Thanks for replying. How would I go about verifying these 2 items? Would the ICS appear in my Add/Remove Programs area of the Control Panel? and do I just check the network area -- how would I recognize that a software bridge appears?

Thanks for your patience with a newbie.

I don't have W2K. In XP you go to START -> Connect to ->Show all connections. This brings up a window with Network Connections. Bridges and ICS will should here if they exist.

To check the services on each NIC:
Under Network Connections:
Highlight the connection, right click, left click Properties. The services are shown on the General Tab.
