Hi everyone,

I need some advice on what I need to buy to accomplish what I want to do with my network. Here's the scenario:

Currently Linksys router (WRT54G) is providing wired connectivity (via its ports) to a Linksys Vonage Phone adapter, and a number of PCs via being hooked up to a Linksys 8 port switch.

I have begun wiring the vonage line through my house wiring so I can use it in any room in the house. I need to relocate the Vonage adapter to go upstairs. I'd like to connect the Vonage adapter, a PS/2 and an XBOX (all situated upstairs) to the existing wireless network.

I believe I need a device like the WET54G bridge to do what I want to do (connect my wired only devices to my wireless network). As I understand, the access point will not work for this application.

Is that correct? Is there a better option than the WET54G? (complexity of solution is not an issue).

Again, my wireless router is in the basement (along with most of the devices). I need to move the Vonage adapter from it's spot in the basement to a place in the kitchen upstairs. Hooking up the XBOX & PS/2 would just be bonus points.

Thanks!

Most access points can be put into "client mode" where the AP acts like a wireless bridge. You'll need to check the specs or manual on the AP that you are planning to use. The only question then becomes whether or not you get a good signal in the kitchen from the router in the basement.

There are other soulutions, like using powerline networking. Connect a powerline to Ethernet bridge into the router in the basement and another into the Vontage box in the kitchen.
