I have purchased a WGR614v6 router and a laptop. I currently have internet access via cable-modem (Scientific Atlanta DCP2100) to an old pc by usb port. My old pc does not have an ethernet card or port. I wish to enable the router so I can have wireless access through the router (for the laptop wireless access) while maintaining my usb cable-modem to pc connection. First, how do I configure the router when I have no way to connect the router (by LAN or otherwise) back to the pc once I run an ethernet cable from the cable modem to the router? If I use the laptop to directly configure the router (coax cable --> modem --> ethernet cable --> router --> LAN cable back to laptop) after disconnecting the pc-->usb connection, once configured will I be able to have the modem with two lines out of it (1 back to pc via usb, 2 to router via ethernet cable and wirelessly out to laptop)? Or is there some other solution to having both connected without needing to upgrade the pc with some kind of ethernet card and port? Thanks for any help!

Buy and install an ethernet NIC card for your PC (Netgear FA311 @£9 from Amazon), it's very easy. (And a 2m / 5m / 10m ethernet cat5e patch cable if you need an extra one to connect the PC from Amazon @£3)

You can configure the router with a wireless PC by setting the wireless PC to a static IP in the subnet of the router. For netgear this would normally be 192.168.0.* (*=2 -> 254) subnet 255.255.255.0.

If you can run the modem with both USB and ethernet depends on the modem - check its manual. If it doesn't then your have Keewaa's suggestion.
