I have a Linksys Cable/Dsl router set up to be the DHCP server. I have a WinXP home edition pc and a win2000 pro pc. I want to share this internet connection on these 2 systems. (both are connected to a hub and the connection to the router is attached to this hub also) i have been reading on ICS and it states that you can not turn off DHCP on the host ICS system. how would i set this up???? can i have this router set up as the DHCP server? and use ICS or is there another way to set this sharing of the internet connection??? thanks

Some questions:

- What internet connection have you that you wan to share... broadband into the router or dial-up into one of the PCs.

- What model Linksys router is it ?

- Has the router any LAN ports

With this I should be able to answer your question I hope.

OK - if I understand correctly then this is what you need to do.

You do not need, and should not use ICS. If it is installed on any PC connection remove it.

Have the LAN DHCP service ON in the router. Have each NIC properties set to get an IP address and DNS addresses automatically and enable Netbios over TCP/IP. In XP make sure there are no network bridges. Don't use the network wizard.

If that does not solve things come back.

:D

go with the physical connection first:

from the regular port of the hub make sure it's connected to the LAN port of your router using a strait cable. go to the routers set-up page go to the DHCP tap check if the DHCP is enable. and check the number of DHCP users (should be in double digits)

the starting IP should be 100

if you have any anti virus or firewalls or any ICS disable or uninstall them because you already have the NAT.:D

Since he has the single port router, doesn't he need to buy another switch?

Broadband into router, switch connected to router, two PC's each connected to the switch?

The internet should just come up automatically. (thanks to DHCP)
