I have a computer set up in our main house with a wired network in a number of rooms, and 2 wireless access points installed. I want to install a computer in a small guest house that's about 15' from the main house. I need guidance on how/what to install to give the new computer access to the network in the main house, which accesses the Internet through a router and then on to a wireless broadband ISP.

If I undertand what I've read here, I need to install an Ethernet-wireless bridge in the little house - would that be correct? Is this a bear to do? Also, since the WAP in the big house is behind a brick wall, I'm thinking that a standard wireless signal from within the little house may not get through. Is it possible to get a bridge that allows the attachment of an external antenna, which I could mount on the exterior wall of the little house?

I really need to know if I'm on the right track, here. If so, are there recommendations somewhere for a particular bridge device? What about the external antenna, if I need one - what do I need to specify if I have to go that route?

Thanks for your input, help, and guidance!

I've been doing some looking around, and see "USB Wireless Adapters" (Linksys) which also look like they'll solve my application problems, since I really don't have any requirement for an ethernet network in my little house. Am I correct in construing that?

I still feel like I'll need something with a removable antenna, so that I can attach a high-gain antenna, if need be. However, I don't think the Linksys adapter has a removable antenna, does it?

Anyway, I'd also like to get some feedback on using that device, since it's quite a bit cheaper than the bridge device.

Thanks!
