Hi - I have a Belkin 54g wireless network adapter (F5D7000) running on Windows 2000 PC and Belkin 54g wireless access point (F5D7130) connected to NT4 network.
The 1st time I try to logon to the network system cannot log me on (cannot connect to my profile on server) and I get a local profile, so I log off and when I logon 2nd time all is OK.

I suspect that 1st time all required services are not lstarted, but 2nd time all is well.
I tried editing registry so that logon service loads after other services but to no avail.

Any ideas please?

Chris

I suspect the wireless adapter is only enabled after your logon, so the PC is not connected to the network at the first logon.

Hi Greenstead - thanks for replying.
Would there be a way of enabling the wireless adapter before logon & do you know if this happens with other wireless adapters?
It's a limitation that I have lived with for a while now and just accepted, but it would be nice if I didn't have to go through the same logon ritual twice each time I (or my wife!) starts the PC up.
Thanks,
Chris

I am not sure because I do not use windows 2000.

For windows 2000 I think you have a Belkin wireless utility which has to run to make the wireless connection and its probably that which is not run until you logon. It is probably in your startup folder. You need that to run at bootup.

Yes - see what you mean. The Belkin Wireless Utility is the bcmwltry.exe program and it's in the run hive on HKLM along with numerous other progs.

Trouble is how to get it to run before logging on. I looked on the Belkin site but support is poor. I guess it needs to run as a service.

Do I have to use the Belkin Wireless Utility - I see there is a Microsoft wireless configuration service listed in the win2k services folder. Can this be used for wireless connectivity?

In XP there is a wireless configuration service which replaces the vendor wireless utilities. I don't think this exists for Win2K.

I am not a PC expert but it must be possible to launch the utility after windows boots. A PC forum might help more.
