I am connected to LAN via ethernet cable so that I am continuously connected to our intranet and also to internet via our proxy server.

At the same time, we also have wireless connection directly to internet.

Is it possible to set for example Internet Explorer should use the wireless connection when connecting to the internet and not via the intranet? i.e. ability to specify for each program; which internet connection to be used. I looked at the IE option, and it only detech dial-up connection to select but not wireless connection.

Thanks

As a point of interest for you, this type of arrangement is normally viewed as breaching the LAN and taboo since the wireless connection to the internet bypasses the LAN firewalls. It depends on your network admin's rules.

Anyway, you can do what you ask. In IE (tools->internet options->connections->Lan settings) you should find there is a proxy server sepcified or configuration script which is what directs your internet access to the LAN proxy. Uncheck this and restart IE. It will then use the wireless connection for non LAN traffic, assuming you wireless connection has its gateway and DNS configured for the direct internet.
