Hello,

I'm totally lost and confused on this one and was hoping someone might be able to help me!

I have Wireless network set up in my home and it works great. The only device that accesses the network wirelessly is my laptop. I have an 3 video game consoles downstairs and don't want to spend 100 dollars each for a wirelss adapter for them becuase I think that's absurd. My laptop has an Ethernet port on it as well as a wireless PCMCIA card that I use to connect to the internet on the laptop. I was wondering if there was a way that I can use the wirless connecton on the laptop to share acess with the Consoles using my laptop and a hub. Someone told me to bridge the connections and configure the default gateway and dns settings on the consoles to the same IP as the laptop, however, when I bridge the connections on my laptop (ethernet and wireless) I can no longer access the internet on the laptop. I get an error 404 no matter what page I attempt to connect to. Any helpful hints or ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you and have a great day!

No need to Bridge Connections - it's easy! You will need a crossover network cable (different from a standard ethernet cable). Then just go to Network Connections and right click properties on Wireless Network. In advanced check "allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection". If it works fine and you don't get any errors than ok. If you get an error saying that the IP is in use, then you must change the LAN IP address of your router to something other than 192.168.0.1. For example you can use 192.168.2.1.

Next go to the Local Area Connection and under properties select the Internet Protocol TCP/IP connection and select properties. Check Use the following IP address and enter 192.168.0.1 and hit tab. The Subnet should fill in automatically. Hit Ok and you're done.

Then just connect the other device with the crossover cable (can be another PC or an XBox or a VoIP adapter, etc.) and you're good to go!

Thanks for the reply!!

I actually figured it out through experimentation about amonth or so ago, what I ended up doing was plugging the ethernet port into a hub, and plugging all my game systems into the hub. Then I just ran the network setup wizard and told it that other computers on the network connect through this pc, and it set the connection up shared for me. Oddly enough, there doesn't seem to be ANY other way for me to be able to share a network connection. *shrug* It works though and that makes me VERY happy :)
