I have a few questions I am having trouble with. I searched through these forums and did not find anything that could help. I just got my wireless hooked up in my apartment and I am new to this field. The cable guy hooked up the router while I was at work at my wifes request, so I did not get a chance to ask some simple questions. So here is the setup. I have a wireless router and my desktop and laptop are bothe going wireless with cable internet.

1) Both pc's work fine except the laptop can have the signal cut out and auto reconnect to another signal in the area. Why is this? I want to use my signal.

2) I want to set up my network to share files and a printer. I go through the wizard to set this up and I never really get anything accomplished (actually I wouldnt know if it was set up between the two. I have never shared files on a home network) How would I know if did this right?

3) When I try and add my printer to the laptop it tells me I am unable to do this. Why? I am assuming because my netwrok isnt set up properly.

I know these are bery noob problems, but that is what I am when it comes to networking and wireless. I have been at this for three days trying to get it figured out. I assure any help that is given to me will be passed on to others who need my help.

Thanks in advance.
Dustin

1, If you use Windows Zero Configuration (WInXP SP2), you can set it to connect to preferred Networks and put your Network at the top.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/netwimprovements.mspx

Log to this page it has many links to instructions to Windows Network Settings, and Sharing.

Link to: Windows Network - Installing & Sharing. (http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html)

dbone, there appears to be some cross posting between this thread and your other thread at:

http://forums.practicallynetworked.com/showthread.php?t=6182

It might make more sense for you to stick to the file and print sharing issues on the other thread (or deleting that thread altogether) and wireless performance within this one, based on what has already transpired. Otherwise, you stand the risk of having confusing/conflicting information/approaches concerning the resolution of your file and print issues going forward.
