Hi
I recently had to return my netgear wireless max network. It kept failing on me misserablly (router lock ups constantly) and opted for a D-Link DI624+ , a DWL-G520 for the home computer and a DWL-G650 for the laptop. I am only operating in G Mode (that is no speed boosting or extended range nothing just basic 54mbs g network) with WAP enabled.
now both can connect to the Router easily enough ( home pc is 20 feet away and the laptop is 20 feet away too) and they can access the internet easily too at the same time with no troubles. both laptops use XP PRO sp2 and windows firewall disabled. both have rip installed, Simple TCP/IP and Peer to peer. both have sharing enabled on the drives and also allow others to modifiy the files. there is no other firewall running on either pc. just xp and all system drivers. (fresh installs.. :) )
when i go to the networks section i can only see the pcs shares. when i do a cmd and ping the laptop. then the laptops shares appear, tho when i click on it it goes " You dont have permission to access these shairs" in orde for the laptop to see the home pc, my home pc needs to be pinged too from the laptop and access is totally restricted too. I have googled and searched and am frustrated as this never happened to me before. surely it cant be this hard to do file and printer sharing (printer connected to my home pc)
any help would be greatly appreciated.
