Someone posted the exact same problem with a different router at experts-exchange.com/Networking/Q_21270104.html
But they charge $10 to see how people responded. I hope you can help me out of the kindness of your hearts!

Problem: I have to reload everything 2 or 3 times to get beyond the Alert: google.com not found. (or to see any website or access an email program)

Router: Netgear

Affected service: DSL
Not-affected service: Cable modem (I moved but previously had no problems with same router on a cable modem)

Affected computers: WinXP desktop (Pro) and laptop (Home edition) when connected to router via ethernet cable or wireless.
Not-affected computers: MacOS (iBook wireless works perfectly!) or WinXP when connected directly to DSL modem without going through router.

Affected browsers: Firefox 1.07, 1.5beta, Internet Explorer 6

I also have 64bit WEP activated if that makes a difference (same setup as on cable modem).

Thanks!!!

When you use XP with the router then XP uses its standard ethernet settings.
DSL is sensitive to a setting called MTU. For ethernet this is set to 1500. This is fine for cable. For DSL it needs to be lowered - typically ~ 1470.
You can use a utility to change the value (MaxMTU). Download DRTCP021.exe here:
http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp

You can the tweak tester to find the best value here:
http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

Do the same on both XP PCs.

Have a go.
